On 15 November last year, Abdusamat Keram, a young man from Xinjiang, finished a 280-day  hiking (徒步) journey from Kashgar to  Beijing. The journey is more than 5,000 kilometers long.

Abdusamat loved to explore (探险) as a kid, but he didn’t really have time for that. After  finishing high school in 2021, he worked in a factory. Through TV and the Internet, he saw many hikers on the road. So he decided to go out and explore the outside world.

In April 2022, he left his job and started the Taklimakan Desert trip with his brother. The journey was hard and it took five months. During the trip, he learnt many life skills from his brother. Also, Abdusamat had a larger hiking plan: to walk from Kashgar to Beijing, alone.

Abdusamat said, “I shared the plan with my brother one night in the desert, and he said to me, ‘If you have an idea, just go for it.’”

On 7 February, 2023, Abdusamat started his journey with his dog Shunfeng. It made the long journey much easier and happier for him. However, both Abdusamat and his dog faced health problems during the trip. Fortunately, he met many kind people. Pop Mart toys are becoming more and more popular, not only among children but also among adults. Peter’s mum, Lisa, a 30-year-old woman, is a big fan of Pop Mart’s LABUBU toy. She says the toy helps her relax. Pop Mart now has over 530 stores worldwide, and in 2024, it made more than 13.2 billion yuan in sales.

One reason why Pop Mart is so popular is the trend (时尚) of “big kids”. Many people from Gen Z (who were born between 1997 and 2012) enjoy doing things that remind (使想起) them of childhood. Collecting toys is one of them. Claire, a fan of these toys, feels close to her LABUBU toy because it is similar to her own personality (性格).

Another reason is the excitement of “blind boxes”. A blind box is a small box with a mystery toy inside. You don’t know which one you will get until you open it. This surprise makes people want to buy more. Amanda Lee, a 26-year-old from Singapore, opens blind boxes with her coworkers during lunch breaks. She says it’s a fun way to relax and share feelings with others.

Pop Mart’s success shows that people enjoy things that bring joy and emotional connection. The toys are more than just fun—they are a way for people to show themselves and feel young again.

A. She works at Pop Mart.                                      B. She collects toys to make money.

28. What is a “blind box”?

A. A toy without color.                                          B. A game to guess toy names.

C. A surprise toy in a box.                                      D. A place to keep toys.

29. Why do Amanda and her coworkers open blind boxes together?

A. To sell the toys.                                                 B. To relax and share feelings.

C. To create new toys.                                            D. To give them to kids.

30. What is the main idea of the passage?

C

The first time I heard about China’s “Golden Week (黄金周)” holiday, I was surprised. Everyone gets the same seven days off in one go! And I’d never heard of “make-up days (调休)”. That’s because holidays and leave are a bit different in my home country, Australia.

Australia has seven national-level public holidays. And each Australian state and territory (领地) also has a few special ones of their own added on. They celebrate local events.

Apart from national holidays, full-time and part-time workers in Australia get at least 20 days of paid leave a year. This doesn’t matter how many years they have worked. Also, you can get even more leave if you have worked in the same company for many years. In China, the most annual leave (年假) you can get is 15 days. It’s given to those who have worked for over 20 years.

In Australia, many people like to take a few weeks of leave in one go. This way, you can get a nice, long holiday, especially around Christmas time and New Year’s Eve. You can also “save” your leave. It will be added to your leave next year. This is the same for sick leave. Workers get 10 days of it a year.

31. What does the author find surprising about China’s “Golden Week” holiday?

A. Everyone gets the same seven days off in one go.

B. People can get more leave if they work for many years.

C. There are no “make-up days” in China.

D. People can save their leave for the next year.

32. How many national-level public holidays does Australia have?

A. Five.                       B. Seven.                     C. Eleven.                    D. Fifteen.

33. What’s the Chinese meaning of the underlined word “local” in Paragraph 2?

A. 国家的                      B. 当地的                       C. 国际的                       D. 外国的

34. What is the main idea of the passage?

A. The importance of taking long vacations.

B. How Australians celebrate their national holidays.

C. The benefits of having more holidays in Australia.

D. The differences between Australian holidays and China’s Golden Week.

35. Why do many Australians like to take a few weeks of leave in one go?

A. To save leave for the next year.                           B. To get more paid leave.

C. To celebrate local events.                                    D. To enjoy a long holiday.

D

wear warm clothes穿暖和的衣服;take a deep breath深呼吸;see a doctor看医生;get together聚会。根据“Dad, I am angry.”可知,感到生气时,深呼吸可以帮助平静情绪。故选B。
