Dear parents,

We are excited to invite you to support us in our third FUN RUN at the Forest Park. The activity will be on Thursday, June 29th from 9:00 to 11:30.

All students can travel the park with you. You will meet us at the gate of the park at 8:30 in the morning. At 8:45 the headmaster(校长)will give information to you and students about the course, then the school nurse will give us safety advice.

Students will complete the course from the gate to Yudai Bridge. There are marks along the travel in the park. All students will do a warm-up before the race. Students without medical conditions should report to the school nurses. They can give you the first aid. We encourage(鼓励)all the students to run as far as they can. But if they feel tired, they can run very slowly or walk. There will be family game activities on the square after the FUN RUN completes. Our school has prepared picnic lunch.

We gave all students a form to raise money yesterday. We hope that you will encourage your friends, neighbors, teammates and especially businessmen to give generously to support us. Everyone knows that there is a river in front of our school. We plan to build a bridge on the river for students to go to school and people to come and go. All the money raised will be used to build the bridge.

If you would like to help, you can phone Mr. Jackson.

Rose is my good friend. She told me that she would come to Japan for vacation in July. But she was very anxious. She said she didn’t know what to do in Japanese restaurants. I had to ask her to understand these table manners and tell her what to do in the restaurant.

Some restaurants in Japan have tatami floor(榻榻米地板). When you step in a restaurant, you must take off your shoes. When you sit at the table, you will receive a small wet cloth at most Japanese restaurants. Use this to wash your hands before eating, then carefully fold it and set it aside on the table. Don’t use it as a napkin, or to touch any part of your face.

Before and after a meal, it is important to say traditional thank-you words. You can make a little noise when you eat. For example, it is common to make some slurping noises while eating noodles. Japanese can say it tastes better if you slurp. For sushi, you should eat up. It is polite to lift small bowls of rice or soup when you eat. After you finish your meal, it is good manners to restore all your dishes to the way they were at the beginning of the meal. For example, you can put chopsticks back on the chopsticks shelf. I think these manners are helpful to her.

Do you ever throw away food at home? Do you know what happens to the food if shops and supermarkets don’t sell it? You might be surprised to find out that over one third of food gets lost or wasted. What’s more, around 800 million people in the world do not have enough food to live a healthy life.

Many people in the UK and across the world are trying to make use of thrown-out food that is perfectly edible(可食用的). For example, there is a restaurant in London using unsold(未出售的) food from supermarkets, including a lot of vegetables, fruit, fish and so on. Cooks turn it into delicious soups and dishes to feed the hungry people. Customers pay what they can afford, or help with the washing up.

Also, last year the UK’s first food waste supermarket opened. Customers pay whatever they want for the food. You can usually find things such as fresh vegetables, fruit and milk there.

“Fuel for School” is another food waste project. Food from supermarkets such as dairy, vegetables, fruit and bread is used to feed hungry school children. Their families may not be able to afford to buy them lunch or snacks.

I think this is an amazing project as food waste is one of the world’s biggest problems. I also believe that the government(政府) should make rules, so that supermarkets don’t throw away so much perfectly good food!

26.What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 2?

A.Unsold food.  B.Vegetable.            C.Fruit.                   D.Fish.

27.What’s the main idea of Paragraph 3?

A.Customers can take food from the supermarket for free.

B.UK’s first food waste supermarket opened.

C.UK has only one food waste supermarket.

D.People can buy anything they want from the supermarket.

28.Where do the food of “Fuel for School” come from?

A.Rich families.                                   B.Schools.               C.Supermarkets. D.Restaurants.

29.What does the writer think of the food waste projects?

A.Amazing.      B.Terrible.              C.Difficult.             D.Useless.

30.According to the passage, the writer may agree that ______.

A.we should buy unsold food to protect the environment

B.the people in UK never make good use of unsold food

C.if people don’t waste food, there will be no hungry people

D.the government should make rules to stop food waste
